University of Texas – Austin

This is our fourth in a series of “College of the Week” in which we’ll highlight a new college you may not have thought of applying to.

They weren’t kidding when they said everything is bigger in Texas. UT, founded in 1883 has the fifth-largest single-campus enrollment in the nation with over 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Originally named one of the eight Public Ivy institutions, the university features seven museums, seventeen libraries and has multiple research facilities. Consistently ranked as one of the best academic public universities in the nation, Texas also dominates athletically in the Big 12 Conference. UT has claimed more titles in men’s and women’s sports than any other school in the Big 12 since the league was founded. Recognized as America’s Best Sports College in 2002 by Sports Illustrated, the university has won four NCAA Division I National Football Championships.

In order to get a true feel for the school we recommend checking out Longhorn Confidential, a blog which reveals a behind-the-scenes look at college life at UT from actual students.
